Why Ghost?

I'm still working through the next blogging option

Coping Mechanism runs on Ghost CMS, currently. I fired up this blog again after being mad at Hugo for the 3rd or 4th time in as many months.

I'm a static website person, so Ghost is not my first choice. If I'm going to go static (or almost static) I lean toward Hugo or BSSG or LMNO.lol or Blot or Eleventy.

Honestly, I'm fine with Hugo. I like most of how baty.net works and when Hugo isn't broken, I like how Hugo works. The problem is that Hugo is, well, static. Sometimes I think I'd like to publish a newsletter from posts. Sometimes I'd like comments. More recently, sometimes I consider moving my social identity away from any specific Mastodon instance. Ghost is working on ActivityPub features that might let me do that one day. Since I'm hosting Ghost at MagicPages, I don't have those features yet, but I'm waiting for them before making any decisions.

The other ActivityPub option is Micro.blog. I've been toying with the idea of moving to Micro.blog (instead of Ghost), but Micro.blog has its own set of issues around vibe that sometimes I like and sometimes I don't. It can feel like living two "communities" at once.

I'm waiting for ActivityPub in Ghost before doing anything drastic. In the meantime, I'll write here once in a while, if only to justify the subscription.
