1963 Yashica-Mat LM

My dad brought home a Yashica-Mat from Florida in April, 2026. He saw it at a garage sale, thought I might be interested, so he paid $10 for it and stashed it in his carry on.

The camera was kind of a mess, but it was mostly just dirt and dust. I couldn't find any damage or broken bits. It cleaned up out pretty well, I think.

Here's the first frame (a mirror self-portrait, of course)...

Mirror self-portrait (2026). Yashica-Mat LM / HP5.

There was one problem, though. The frame spacing...

Out of control frame spacing

Spacing was bad enough that I only got 10½ frames on the roll. On the other hand, they were all in focus and look better than I expected.

The Yashica feels much like my Rolleiflex. Maybe a little less "solid" but still good. The focusing screen is a little dark, but usable. It's a nice camera, especially for $10!
